The impact of electricity from renewable and non-renewable sources on energy poverty and greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs): Empirical evidence and policy implications

Eyüp Emre ULUĞ | Burcu ORALHAN

Makale/Derleme | 2023 | Energy , pp.1 - 13

Energy poverty and greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) are two major challenges on the road to sustainable development goals. The main goal of the global policy is to combat GHGs and energy poverty through the transition from fossil fuels to clean and renewable sources. Empirical research with a global or regional focus can offer practical implications for the development of global energy and environmental policies. To this end, this paper estimates the impact of electricity from different sources on energy poverty and GHGs in low-, middle- and high-income countries with annual data. The paper firstly performs the generalized method of . . .moments and the sequential estimation of a linear panel-data model. According to the findings, (i) electricity from coal contributes to the increase in GHGs in the upper-middle income countries but does not have a significant effect on energy poverty. (ii) The effect of electricity from natural gas and nuclear energy on GHGs and energy poverty is mixed. Electricity from nuclear power is confirmed to have a reducing effect on energy poverty in middle and low-income countries. However, it does not have a significant effect in high-income countries. (iii) Electricity from renewable and hydro sources makes a significant contribution to reducing GHGs and energy poverty. (iv) Finally, heterogeneous estimates for robustness check greatly support baseline findings Daha fazlası Daha az

Mobbing, Organizational Identification, and Perceived Support: Evidence From a Higher Education Institution

Gonca ÇİFFİLİZ

Makale/Derleme | 2018 | Eurasian Journal of Educational Research73 , pp.21 - 42

Purpose: The aim of the current study is twofold. First, it investigates the relationship between mobbing and organizational identification (OI) as an organizational attitude. Second, it explores the moderating effect of perceived organizational support (POS) on the relationship between mobbing and organizational identification. We proposed that perceived organizational support acts as a moderator between mobbing and organizational identification. Research Methods: We used a cross-sectional design and data were gathered from employees working in a higher educational institution. The sample yielded 152 complete surveys, including 123 . . . academics and 29 administrative staff. The questionnaire included measures of mobbing, perceived organizational support, and organizational identification. Findings: The results of the moderated regression analysis do not provide support for the moderating effect of perceived organizational support in the relationship between mobbing and organizational identification. However, the findings demonstrate that, rather than a moderating variable, perceived organizational support is positively associated with organizational identification. Implications for Research and Practice: The results of the current study highlight the effect of organizational support in increasing the organizational identification levels of employees to their organizations. It would be beneficial for future research to assess the moderator effect of other dispositional or situational variables on the proposed relationships. Moreover, future research might also investigate other work outcomes, such as intention to leave, job satisfaction, and job performance Daha fazlası Daha az

A Review on Machine Learning Models in Forecasting of Virtual Power Plant Uncertainties

Ahmet DOĞAN

Makale/Derleme | 2023 | Archives of Computational Methods in Engineering , pp.2081 - 2103

The penetration rates of renewable sources and energy storage systems in the energy market have risen considerably due to environmental and economic concerns. In addition, new types of loads such as electric vehicle charging are added to the grid recently. Inherent uncertainty of renewable generation and new type of loads make the power grid more complex and difcult to manage from economic and technical aspects. Virtual power plant (VPP) is a key concept of future smart grid integrating a variety of power sources, controllable loads, and storage devices. VPP environment aims to enhance the stability of the grid and maximize the reve . . .nue. Achieving these objectives mostly depends on the precise forecasting of three major uncertainties; renewable generation, load demand and electricity price. On the other side, machine learning (ML) models are quite efcient for complex uncertainties with large scale dataset compared to traditional approaches. In this paper, mostly employed ML models for forecasting VPP uncertainties are analyzed. Firstly, VPP components and operation of the system are explained. Then, preprocessing techniques, ML methods and performance evaluation criteria for forecasting approaches are presented. Contributions and limitations of recent works are critically discussed and separately tabulated. Finally, several future research opportunities are released at the conclusion of this pape Daha fazlası Daha az

3D fnite element analysis of stress distribution as a result of oblique and horizontal forces after regenerative endodontic treatment part II: comparison of material thickness

Beril DEMİRCAN | Pınar DEMİR

Makale/Derleme | 2023 | BMC Oral Health , pp.1 - 9

Abstract Aim This study aimed to evaluate the stress distribution caused by secondary trauma forces after regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) using diferent thicknesses of coronary barrier material with three-dimensional fnite element analysis(FEA). Method A control model was created using the tomography image of the immature maxillary central tooth with computer software.Study models were created with the modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio of the materials used in RET.Enamel, dentin, cementum, periodontal ligament, cortical, and cancellous bone were modeled. Coronary barrier materials were applied in 3 mm and 5 mm thic . . .knesses (Model 1: control model, model 2:3 mm/Calcium Enriched Mixture(CEM), model 3:3 mm/Mineral Trioxide Aggregate(MTA), model 4:3 mm/Biodentin, model 5:5 mm/ CEM, model 6:5 mm/MTA, model 7:5 mm/Biodentin). For the trauma force simulation, 300 N force in the horizontal direction was applied to the buccal surface of the tooth in the frst scenario. For the second scenario, maximum bite force simulation, a force of 240 N in the oblique direction was applied to the palatal surface of the tooth. FEA was performed with Algor Fempro. The resulting stresses were recorded as Von Mises, maximum, and minimum principal stresses. Results Lower stress values were obtained in 5 mm models compared to 3 mm models. However, the diference between them was insignifcant. Lower stress values were obtained in all RET models compared to the control model. The lowest stress values in dental tissues and bone tissue were obtained in the CEM models. Conclusion This is the frst study in which the stress caused by diferent thicknesses of CEM on dental tissues was evaluated with FEA. RET strengthens immature teeth biomechanically. CEM and Biodentin are more successful materials in stress distribution than MTA. Considering the cost of treatment, 3 mm material thickness is ideal for RET since there is no signifcant diference between the stress values resulting from the use of 5 mm and 3 mm coronary barrier material.
