Fast convergence algorithm for blind channel estimation and equalization using CMF-DFE

Ali ÖZEN

Bildiri | 2015 | 2015 IEEE 81ST VEHICULAR TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE (VTC SPRING) , pp.1 - 7

A novel fast blind equalizer is obtained by using the direct calculations from a channel matched filter decision feedback equalizer (CMF-DFE). The proposed technique converts the inverse convolution operations of an equalizer into a linear finite impulse response estimation filter, which is more suitable for blind training. A novel error function is introduced for blind training which enables the use of fast algorithms such as LMS or RLS. The required auto-regression values for the CMF-DFE equalizer are calculated from the incoming data. The resulting performance with LMS training is close to that of nonblind techniques.

On the design and performance analysis of lowcorrelation compact space-multimode diversity stacked microstrip antenna arrays for mımo-ofdm wlans over statistically-clustered ındoor radio channels

Asuman SAVAŞÇIHABEŞ

Makale/Derleme | 2015 | Radioengineering Journal

The support of high spectral efficiency MIMO spatial-multiplexing communication in OFDM-based WLAN systems conforming to IEEE 802.11n standard requires the design and use of compact antennas and arrays with low correlation ports. For this purpose, compact space-multimode diversity provisioning stacked circular multimode microstrip patch antenna arrays (SCP-ULA) are proposed in this paper and their performance in terms of spatial and modal correlations, ergodic spectral efficiencies as well as compactness with respect to antenna arrays formed of vertically-oriented center-fed dipole elements (DP-ULA) and dominantmode operating circul . . .ar microstrip patch antennas (CPULA) are presented. The lower spatial and modal correlations and the consequent higher spectral efficiency of SCP-ULA with ML detection over statistically-clustered Kronecker-based spatially-correlated NLOS Ricean fading channels with respect to DP-ULA and CPULA at significantly lower antenna and array sizes represents SCP-ULA as a promising solution for deployment in terminals, modems and access points of next-generation high-speed 802.11n MIMO-OFDM WLAN systems. Comparison of the electronic transport properties of metallic graphene and silicene nanoribbons

Serhan YAMAÇLI

Makale/Derleme | 2015 | Journal of Nanoparticle Research

Carbon-based materials such as carbon nanotubes and graphene nanoribbons are investigated extensively for the near future nanoelectronics technology. Considering the expertise on the processing of silicon, various implementations of silicon counterparts of these nanoscale components such as silicon nanotubes and silicene nanoribbons have also been reported recently. In this work, electronic transport properties of metallic graphene and silicene nanoribbons (GNRs and SiNRs) are compared. Ab initio simulations based on density functional theory combined with non-equilibrium Green’s function formalism are used to obtain the voltage-dep . . .endent transmission spectra, resistance–voltage variations and the potential profiles of realistic metallic GNR and SiNR samples. The investigation of the variations of the transmission characteristics of the GNRs and SiNRs exposes that both nano structures show voltagedependent resistances due to elastic potential scattering compliant with Bu¨ttiker formalism. However, the variation of the transmission spectra of GNRs by the applied voltage is lower than that of SiNRs indicating that metallic GNRs seem to be better candidates compared to their silicon counterparts for use as metallic interconnects Daha fazlası Daha az

N-person grey game

Erkan KÖSE

Makale/Derleme | 2015 | KYBERNETES

Purpose – One important assumption in the conventional cooperative game theory is that payoffs are assumed to be deterministic. In terms of the players’ cognitive ability of the realistic world, this is a very strict assumption. The classical game theory can find no way out when a particular game circumstance involves uncertainty, such as limited knowledge, small sample, and inadequate information, the payoff values of the game can only be described with interval grey numbers. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – In this study the concept of N-person grey games is proposed in which payoffs are repres . . .ented with interval grey numbers opposed to the classical game theory. A straight forward solution methodology is submitted compatible to grey numbers. Then, a currency war between anonymous countries is handled and modeled as an N-Person grey game. A generic currency war scenario is developed to follow the proposed solution procedure thoroughly. Findings – Based on the outcomes of this work, the authors can say that N-person grey game is an expansion of the classical N-person game under uncertain grey information and can be applied in more complex and uncertain environments, such as those seen in complicated currency warfare. Originality/value – This study combines the grey system theory with the classic N-person game theory and sets up the N-person grey game with grey payoff functions. Based on the grey number operating methods, the grey linear programming algorithm is established to calculate and distribute benefits to the players. In this respect this study has the feature of being the pioneer in the N-person grey game area. Daha fazlası Daha az

Finding optimal parameters of tuned mass dampers

Şaban Suat ÖZSARIYILDIZ | Ali BOZER

Makale/Derleme | 2015 | STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF TALL AND SPECIAL BUILDINGS

In this paper, optimum design of tuned mass damper for seismically excited structures is discussed. In thedesign process, a benchmark multi-degree of freedom system is considered, and the performance measureof the optimization criterion is selected as the H2and H1norms of the transfer function of the combinedtuned mass damper and building system. Differential evolution algorithm is then utilized to minimize theseobjective functions. The objective function choice on performance and the effectiveness of differential evo-lution optimization algorithm in comparison with other algorithms in the literature are investigated throughnumerica . . .l simulations. Experimental research for the effect of high temperature on the mechanical properties of steel fiber-reinforced concrete

Tefaruk HAKTANIR | Fatih ALTUN

Makale/Derleme | 2015 | Construction and Building Materials

It is widely known that addition of steel fibers to concrete improves properties of concrete having brittle behavior. This affects the behavior in a positive way particularly by increasing ductility of the concrete. In this study, the results of the effect of high temperature on steel–fiber concrete were investigated. RC80/ 60 BN type steel–fibers were added to experimental concrete as in the rates of 0%, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% by volume and concrete cylinder samples with 7, 28 and 90-day were tested. Produced cylinder samples were exposed to 900 °C, 1000 °C, 1100 °C and 1200 °C temperatures in the furnace. The effect of temper- ature wa . . .s applied to samples within 6 h in experiments. In this study, compressive strength, modulus of elasticity and toughness values of fiber-concrete were given comparatively according to different fiber ratios, concrete age and varying temperature effects. Consequently, compressive strength, modulus of elasticity and toughness values of fiber-concrete sub- stantially decreased by the effect of high temperature as it was expected. When it was examined the results with regard to percentage of steel fiber, samples of 1.0% fiber additive had specifically the lowest of compressive strength losses. Additionally in comparing results of compressive strength losses on high temperature effect were lower at 900 °C and 1000 °C than at 1100 °C and 1200 °C temperatures. Deter- mined results of 1100 °C and 1200 °C temperatures were closed with each other. Namely compressive strength values reached the lowest value after 1100 °C. Daha fazlası Daha az

Makale/Derleme | 2015 | NEUROSCIENCES

Objective: To investigate the perceived social support systems’, and depression’s effects on attitudes regarding coping strategies for the disease in patients with epilepsy. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 182 epileptic patients who applied to the Neurology Polyclinics of the Faculty of Medicine at Erciyes University, Kayseri, Turkey between November 2011 and November 2012. As data collection tools, we used the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support Systems, Beck Depression Inventory, and the Assessment Scale for Coping Attitudes. Results: We found that epileptic patients most frequently employed emo . . .tion-oriented coping strategies. Among the emotion-oriented coping strategies, religious coping ranked first, positive reinterpretation and growth came second, while using instrumental social support, which was one of the problem-oriented coping strategies, ranked third. The most frequently used non-functional coping methods were “focus on and venting of emotions”. The most influential variables on coping strategies of epileptic patients were age, gender, educational level, family structure, type of seizures, and the interference of the disease in communication. We found a negatively significant correlation among the scores of depression and emotion-oriented coping strategies, dysfunctional coping strategies, and problem-based coping strategies, while there was a positive correlation found between dysfunctional coping strategies and emotion-oriented coping strategies. Conclusions: The most influential variables on the coping strategies of epileptic patients were age, gender, educational level, family structure, type of seizures, and the interference of the disease in communication Daha fazlası Daha az
