A new step size control technique for blind and non-blind equalization algorithms

Ali Özen

Makale/Derleme | 2013 | Radioengineering Journal

A new variable step size (VSS) control technique employing cross correlation between channel output and error signal has been proposed as a solution to the problem of slow convergence of blind and non-blind equalization algorithms. The new method resolves the conflict between the convergence rate and low steady state error of the fixed step-size conventional blind and non-blind equalization algorithms, such as Constant Modulus Algorithm (CMA) and Least Mean Squares (LMS) algorithm. Computer simulations have been performed to verify the performance of the proposed method in frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed t . . .echnique has been compared with the popular non-blind equalizers, LMS and Recursive Least Squares (RLS) algorithms, and blind equalizers, the conventional CMA, Zhao’s VSS-CMA and Demir’s VSS-CMA as benchmarks. The obtained simulation results have demonstrated that the proposed VSS-CMA and VSS-LMS algorithms have considerably better performance than the conventional CMA, Zhao’s VSS-CMA and Demir’s VSS-CMA blind equalization algorithms, and the conventional LMS non-blind equalization algorithm. A novel modulation recognition technique based on artificial bee colony algorithm in the presence of multipath fading channels

Ali ÖZEN

Bildiri | 2013 | IEEE 36th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing, TSP 2013 , pp.239 - 243

In this paper, a novel automatic modulation recognition (AMR) method has been proposed for classifying of the transmitted signals by observing the received data samples in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multipath fading channel. The proposed method (ABC-ANN) is based on artificial neural network (ANN) which is trained by artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm. Because high order statistics are very interesting features to solve the problem of AMR, the high order cumulants have been employed in the proposed ABC-ANN classifier. ABC algorithm is used in finding the optimal weight set of artificial neural networ . . .ks for classification and the performance of the proposed ABC-ANN algorithm is compared with the performance of ANN classifier (SCG-ANN) using scaled conjugate gradient learning algorithm. Computer simulation results have demonstrated that the proposed recognizer can reach much better classification accuracy than the SCG-ANN in even 0 dB of signal to noise ratio (SNR) value Daha fazlası Daha az

Bildiri | 2013 | IEEE 21th Signal Processing and Communications Applications SIU 2013 , pp.1 - 4

Bu bildiride, toplanır beyaz Gauss gürültülü (Additive White Gaussian Noise, AWGN) kanala maruz kalmış temel bant sinyallerinin sınıflandırılması için yeni bir sayısal modülasyon tanıma yöntemi önerilmektedir. Önerilen yöntem (ABC-ANN), yapay arı koloni (Artificial Bee Colony, ABC) algoritması ile eğitilmiş yapay sinir ağları (Artificial Neural Networks, ANN) modelidir. ABC-ANN sınıflayıcıda alınan sinyallerin yüksek dereceli logaritmik momentlerinden yararlanılmaktadır ve yapay sinir ağlarının başarımını doğrudan etkileyen optimum ağırlık kümesinin bulunmasında ABC algoritması kullanılmaktadır. Bilgisayar benzetim sonuçları önerile . . .n yöntemin -5 dB işaret gürültü oranında (Signal to Noise Ratio, SNR) dahi mevcut tekniklerden çok daha iyi sınıflama doğruluğuna ulaştığını göstermektedir. Algebraic Current-voltage and Voltage Dependent Resistance Expressions for Ballistic Nano Conductors and Their Low Voltage Nonlinearity

Serhan YAMAÇLI

Makale/Derleme | 2013 | Nano-Micro Letters

In this study, an algebraic current-voltage (I-V ) equation suitable for the hand-calculation of ballistic nano conductors is derived from Landauer’s formulation. A voltage and temperature dependent resistance expression is also obtained. It is shown that the presented algebraic I-V expression and the original Landauer’s formula give the same characteristics as expected. Moreover, the I-V characteristics of ballistic nano conductors are investigated and it is concluded that there is an inescapable nonlinearity originating from the curvature of Fermi-Dirac distribution function in low voltage range. Finally, the total harmonic distor . . .tion (THD) of a sample ballistic nano conductor caused from its low voltage nonlinearity is computed via HSPICE simulations Daha fazlası Daha az

Accurate SPICE compatible CNT interconnect and CNTFET models for circuit design and simulation

Serhan YAMAÇLI

Makale/Derleme | 2013 | Mathematical and Computer Modelling

SPICE compatible CNT interconnect and CNTFET models in Verilog-A hardware description language are presented in this paper. Metallic CNTs are shown to have current saturation characteristics above a threshold voltage and then modelled with piecewise linear functions. On the other hand, the CNTFET model developed utilizes the calculation of the self-consistent potential of the CNT channel depending on gate and drain voltages. Unlike the previous SPICE-enabled CNTFET models using approximations and curve fittings, the proposed model employs a self-consistent method for the calculation of the channel potential in SPICE, providing more . . .accuracy. The versatility of the CNT interconnect model and that of the CNTFET model are shown in CNT circuit simulations Daha fazlası Daha az

Hybrid tracking controller with attached tuned mass damper

Ali BOZER

Makale/Derleme | 2013 | STRUCTURAL CONTROL & HEALTH MONITORING

The optimization of tuned mass damper (TMD) involves the attachment of a damper to a TMD unit. Although thissupplementary damping renders TMD to be operational under broad bandwidth inputs (i.e., wind excitation), italso considerably decreases the efficiency. In this paper, an alternative approach is suggested to eliminate therequirement for supplementary damping, hence to utilize TMD in full efficiency. For this purpose, combinedstructure/undamped TMD system is equipped with an active controller to track the response of an oscillatorwith natural frequency set to the operating frequency of the TMD unit. In this case, a proposed cont . . .roller doesnot aim returning a system to its zero state; instead, it supports the TMD unit to suppress vibration effectively. This tracking type controller is formulized by both linear quadratic regulator, andH1control schemes, andcontrol performances of each system are evaluated through numerical simulations. Makale/Derleme | 2013 | Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to explore the opinions of nurses regarding their knowledge of and perceived responsibility for providing ostomy care. SUBJECTS AND SETTING: The target population of this descriptive study was staff nurses working in an acute care hospital in Ankara, Turkey. METHODS: Data were collected by a questionnaire that included 2 sections. The fi rst section queried descriptive information about the nurses, the perceived responsibility for providing ostomy care for patients. The second section included 54 items that focused on knowledge about stoma care. RESULTS: Evaluating the answers of the nurses to . . .all statements in general (54 propositions), the median value of the “I do not know/false” answers (27.50) was observed to be close to the median value of the “true” answers (26.5). These results indicated that the staff nurses’ knowledge of ostomy care was not at the desired level. Responses from section 2 indicated that nonspecialty practice staff did not consider stoma care as their responsibility. Factors that infl uenced knowledge of ostomy care were number of years working as a nurse, level of education, level of reviewing professional literature on ostomy care, and participation in scientifi c meetings on the subject. CONCLUSIONS: Study fi ndings reveal that knowledge level of nonspecialty nurses about intestinal stoma care is inadequate, and most staff nurses did not consider themselves responsible for stoma care.
