Several studies have already demonstrated the impact of Pae on periodontitis, but its effect on diabetic periodontitis is unclear. In this study, our aim was to test the hypothesis that Pae had a strong anti-inflammatory effect that prevented bone loss in diabetic periodontitis. MethodsThirty male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into control (healthy, n = 10), periodontitis (PD) + diabetes (DM; n = 10), and PD + DM + Pae (n = 10) groups. Ligature-induced periodontitis was created by placing 4-0 silk ligatures around the lower first molars on both sides of the mandibulae. Experimental DM was created via an injection of 50 mg/kg and streptozotocin (STZ). Hyperglycemia was confirmed by the blood glucose levels of rats (>300 mg/dL). The bone mineral density (BMD), trabecular number, trabecular thickness, and bone loss were measured by micro-CT. The expression levels of IL-1 & beta;, IL-6, and TNF-& alpha; were measured in tissue homogenates by ELISA. ResultsThe PD + DM + Pae group had significantly less alveolar crest resorption when compared to the PD + DM group. There was also a significant difference between the PD + DM + Pae group compared to PD + DM group in trabecular thickness, BMD, and the number of trabeculae. Pae application led to a statistically significant decrease in IL-1 & beta;, IL-6, and TNF-& alpha; levels in diabetic periodontitis. ConclusionSystemic application of Pae suppressed inflammation caused by PD and DM, leading to reduced bone loss and enhanced bone quality.Öğe Comparison tensile strength of different sutur materials(Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Dentistry, 2021) Kuzu, Turan EmreObjectives: The purpose of this study is to compare the tensile strength of different types of surgical suture materials. Materials and Methods: Current study, the tensile strengths of 4 different suture materials was compared. [(1-4/0 silk suture 2-4/0 propylene suture 3-4/0 Polyamide suture 4-4/0 Poly[Glycolide-Co-L-Lactide] (90%:10%) (PGLA) suture)] The tensile strength of a total of 40 samples was calculated, with 10 samples in each group. In the study, the tensile strength of the sutures was calculated using a universal tester, the sutures were tightened to both poles of the test device and fixed with a distance of 15 mm between the poles, tensile force was applied so that both poles of the test device moved away from each other at a speed of 25cm/min until the sutures broke, and the force value of the sutures at the moment of brake was recorded in Newton units (N) as the tensile strength of suture. Statistical analysis of the data was evaluated by One-Way ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests. Results: In the statistical analysis of the tensile strength of the suture materials, the difference between the tension resistance of the PGLA and Polyamide suture was not statistically significant, but the difference between all other suture materials was statistically significant (p<0.05). Tensile strength of suture materials were determined as propylene, polyamide, PGLA and silk suture, respectively. Conclusions: Within the limits of the current study, the tensile strength of the propylene suture was higher than that of PGLA, silk, and polyamide sutures. © 2021,Cumhuriyet Dental Journal. all rights reservedÖğe Determination of the Effect of Periimplantitis-Induced Bone Defects on Implant Stability by Resonance Frequency Analysis Method: An Ex-Vivo Study(Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Dentistry, 2023) Kuzu, Turan Emre; Öztürk, KübraObjectives: Periimplantitis is an infectious disease that causes the resorption of the alveolar bone around the implant. This resorption compromises osseointegration by affecting bone-implant contact. This study aimed to determine the effects of experimentally created 3-walled periimplantal defect models at different depths on osseointegration. Materials and Methods: This study was designed as an ex-vivo study. Fresh bovine ribs were used in this study. A total of 14 dental implants of 3.5x10 mm size were placed on the fresh beef rib, and then periimplantal bone defects of different depths were experimentally created. There are a total of 4 groups in the study, they are respectively; healthy group, 1.5 mm deep defect, 2.5 mm deep defect, and 5 mm deep defect group. For all of these groups, osseointegration was evaluated with the Osstell penguin device using the resonance frequency analysis method from four regions of each implant, mesial-distal buccal palatinal, to determine the osseointegration level according to the amount of bone-implant contact. Results: While the highest ISQ values were observed in the healthy group, the difference between the other groups and the healthy group was not statistically significant, except for the 5 mm defect group. The results of the 5 mm defect group were significantly lower than those of the other three groups. Conclusions: It has been observed that there will be a significant decrease in osseointegration according to osstell scores in periimplantal defects with a defect depth of 5 mm. © This work is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International LicenseÖğe Diş Çekimi Sırasında Apikal Kök Kırıklarının Tanısının Farklı Radyografik Teknikler Kullanılarak Değerlendirilmesi: Ex-vivo Bir Çalışma(Deneysel, Biyoteknolojik, Klinik ve Stratejik Sağlık Araştırmaları Derneği, 2024) Öztürk, Kübra; Kuzu, Turan Emre; Akkoca, Fatma; Kis, HaticeAmaç: Bu çalışma, farklı branşlarda uzman diş hekimleri tarafından yapılan diş çekimlerinde meydana gelen apikal kök kırıklarının teşhisi için farklı görüntüleme tekniklerinin tanı yeteneğini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Periapikal radyografiler kullanılarak yapılan tanıların, panoramik radyografiler kullanılarak yapılan tanılardan daha etkili olduğu görülmüştür.Öğe Effect of different cone beam computed tomography settings on artifact production in titanium and zirconia dental implants: An in vitro study(Wroclaw Medical Univ, 2024) Kuzu, Turan Emre; Kis, Hatice CansuBackground. The use of dental implants in the treatment of edentulous patients is increasing. Zirconia implants are an alternative to titanium implants, offering advantages in terms of aesthetics and biological compatibility. However, the number of artifacts observed on radiographic images with zirconia implants compared to titanium implants is yet to be determined. Objectives. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of different cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) parameters on the production of artifacts in zirconia and titanium implants. Material and methods. A dry human mandible was coated with wax to simulate human soft tissues and examined. Subsequently, titanium and zirconia implants were placed at the same points in the posterior region of the mandible. The production of artifacts on CBCT scans was evaluated using 2 parameters. The first parameter, the standard deviation within the region of interest (SDROI), is based on a comparison of the gray levels at implant and control areas. The second parameter was the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), which was evaluated for different protocols created by various combinations of the field of view (FOV) area, milliampere [mA] intensity and metal artifact reduction (MAR) programs. Results. The study found that zirconia implants produced more artifacts than titanium implants. However, the production of artifacts in zirconia implants could be significantly reduced by increasing the mA values, performing CBCT scans with smaller FOV areas, and enabling MAR programs. Conclusions. The production of artifacts is a disadvantage of zirconia implants, but this drawback can be mitigated by selecting appropriate protocols for the CBCT device.Öğe Effect of Photobiomodulation Therapy on Peri-Implant Bone Healing in Extra-Short Implants in a Rabbit Model: A Pilot Study(Mary Ann Liebert, Inc, 2022) Kuzu, Turan Emre; Ozturk, Kuebra; Gurgan, Cem A.; Usumez, Aslihan; Yay, Arzu; Goktepe, OzgeObjective: To evaluate the effects of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) at distinct energy levels on peri-implant bone healing in extra-short implants in a experimental rabbit model. Background: The effect of PBMT on peri-implant bone healing in short implants remains unclear. This explored the effect of PBMT on extra-short implants in terms of bone-implant contact (BIC) length and rate, and implant stability quotient (ISQ).Methods: Fifteen white New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into five groups. In all groups, extra-short implants (3.5 x 4 mm; Nucleoss T6, Izmir/Turkey) were placed in both tibias of the rabbits. PBMT was performed in four groups (group 1, 5 J/cm(2); group 2, 10 J/cm(2); group 3, 20 J/cm(2); and group 4, 25 J/cm(2)); no PBMT was performed in the control group. On the 30th day, the rabbits were sacrificed and peri-implant tissue samples were obtained to determine the BIC length and BIC rate. Implant stability levels were measured by resonance frequency analysis using the Osstell penguin device and were determined as ISQ values on the 1st and 30th days of the study. Results: PBMT significantly increased the BIC length and BIC rate in groups 3 and 4 (p < 0.001). For the ISQ values, there were significant differences between the 1st and 30th day (p < 0.001). On the 30th day, the ISQ values were significantly higher in groups 3 and 4 compared with the remaining groups (p < 0.001).Conclusions: In this study, PBMT improved peri-implant bone healing through increase in BIC length, BIC rate, and ISQ parameter values in extra-short implants.Öğe Effect of systemic atorvastatin on bone regeneration in critical-sized defects in hyperlipidemia: an experimental study(Springer Japan Kk, 2023) Ozturk, Kuebra; Kuzu, Turan Emre; Ayrikcil, Semih; Gurgan, Cem Abdulkadir; Onder, Gozde Ozge; Yay, ArzuPurpose Hypocholesterolemic medications similar to atorvastatin are efficient in lowering blood lipid levels; however, compared to other medications in the statin family, their impact on bone metabolism is claimed to be insufficient. The impact of atorvastatin on bone regeneration in dental implantology in individuals with hyperlipidemia who received atorvastatin in the clinic is doubtful. Methods In the study, 16 male New Zealand rabbits of 6 months were used. All rabbits were fed a high-cholesterol diet for 8 weeks, and hyperlipidemia was created. It was confirmed that the total cholesterol level in rabbits was above 105 mg/dl. A critical-sized defect was created in the mandible. The defect was closed with xenograft and membrane. Oral 10 mg/kg atorvastatin was started in the experimental group, and no drug was administered in the control group. At 16th week, animals were sacrificed. For histomorphological examination, the new bone area, osteoclast, and osteoblast activities were evaluated. Results While new bone area (45,924 mu m(2), p < 0.001) and AP intensities (105.645 +/- 16.727, p = 0.006) were higher in the atorvastatin group than in the control group, TRAP intensities in the control group (82.192 +/- 5.346, p = 0.021) were higher than that in the atorvastatin group. Conclusions It has been found that high blood lipid levels will adversely affect bone graft healing and the use of systemic atorvastatin contributes to bone healing. Clinicians should pay attention to the selection of surgical materials, considering the importance of questioning drug use in their patients and the risks in cases of non-use.Öğe Evaluation of the Locations of Posterior Superior Alveolar Artery and Lingual Foramen in Cone Beam Computed Tomography Before Dental Implant Treatment(2023) Kuzu, Turan Emre; Öztürk, KübraAim: This study aimed to evaluate the locations of the lingual foramen and posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA) and their distances from the alveolar crest and maxillary sinus floor using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Method: In this study, 136 patients underwent CBCT: 1-The PSAA’s proximity to the alveolar crest and sinus floor, 2-Its position on the lateral wall of the maxillary sinus, and 3-The distance from the lingual foramen to the alveolar crest bor- ders. Results: Gender caused a significant difference in the distance of PSAA from the alveolar crest (p<0.001). The PSAA was most often located on the inner wall of the maxillary sinus. The distance between the lingual foramen and the lower and upper margins of the crest varied significantly depending on gender (p<0.001). Conclusion: In this study, it was found that the lingual foramen, PSAA, and the distances of these formations to the alveolar crests could be determined at a high rate in CBCTs, and gender had an effect on these distances.Öğe Hiperlipidemik tavşanlarda sistemik atorvastatin kullanımının deneysel olarak oluşturulan kritik boyutlu defektlerde kemik rejenerasyonuna etkisinin değerlendirilmesi(2021) Öztürk, Kübra; Kuzu, Turan Emre; Kuzu , Turan Emre; Ayrıkçil , Semih; Gürgan , Cem A.; Yay , Arzu; Önder , Gözde Özge; Öztürk, Kübra[Abtsract Not Available]Öğe İmplant üstü sabit restorasyonlarda kron sökümünün implant osseointegrasyonuna etkisinin incelenmesi: Tavşan modeli(Smyrna Tıp Dergisi, 2021) Kuzu, Turan Emre; Aydoğdu, Hasan MuratAmaç: Diş eksikliklerinin giderilmesinde implant uygulamalarının popülaritesi gün geçtikçe artmaktadır. Objecties: The popularity of implant applications in the elimination of tooth deficiencies is increasing day by day. The treatment of the patients is completed by making crown-bridge prostheses on the implants that have completed osseointegration. However, sometimes due to prosthetic and surgical complications and sometimes infections of the tissues around the implant, the cemented prostheses have to be removed again, and the effect of the forces applied during this removal process on the implant osseointegration and the bone implant interface has not been studied. In this study, it is aimed to examine the effects of different crown removal procedures applied to implant fixed prostheses on osseointegration of implants. Materials and Method: In this study, a total of 40 dental implants (Nucleoss t6, 3.5x8mm) were placed in the right and left tibia of 10 New Zealand rabbits, 2 each. Stability and osseointegration of the implants were measured twice, at the time of implant placement and at the end of the 4th week, using the resonance frequency analysis method (Ostell). Then, digital measurements were taken on the 15o angled prefabricated abutment and 40 crowns of Cr-Co crowns were produced, designed with CAD / CAM. Crowns were divided into 2 groups and cemented with glass ionomer-based implant cement (Fujitemp) and polycarboxylate cement (Durelon). Later, each group was divided into two within itself, the crowns in the first group (A) were removed with a hand-assembled automatic crown remover, and the crowns in the second group (B) were removed with an air accelerated kinetic impact crown remover (Coronaflex, KaVo). Ostell measurements were made after crown removal and also the reverse torque value of each implant was measured. Results: For both adhesive cement groups, there was a statistically significant decrease in ostell values after crown removal in the groups that were removed with coronaflex compared to the 4th week ostell values (p?0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in other ostell values and reverse torque measurements in the comparisons between groups and within groups (p?0.05). Conclusion: In the light of the data we obtained from the study, it was observed that the removal process performed with coronaflex in the removal of the cemented over implant crowns has more negative effects on the stability of the implant compared to the manual crown remover.Öğe İnferior alveolar sinir hasarında diode lazerin (976 nm) farklı tedavi protokollerinde sinir rejenerasyonuna etkisi(2021) Öztürk, Kübra; Kuzu, Turan Emre; Kuzu, Turan Emre; Gürgan , Cem A.; Yay, Arzu; Önder , Gözde Özge; Öztürk, Kübra[Abtsract Not Available]Öğe Tavşan tibiasına deneysel olarak yerleştirilen implantlara düşük doz lazer uygulamalarının implant osseointegrasyonuna etkisinin rezonans frekans analizi ve histomorfometrik yöntemlerle değerlendirilmesi(2021) Öztürk, Kübra; Kuzu, Turan Emre; Gürgan, Cem A.; Öztürk, Kübra|Yay, Arzu; Göktepe, Özge; Kuzu, Turan Emre[Abtsract Not Available]Öğe The effect of different treatment protocols with diode laser on regeneration in axonetmesis injuries of the inferior alveolar nerve: an animal study(Springer London Ltd, 2023) Oztuerk, Kubra; Kuzu, Turan Emre; Gurgan, Cem A.; Onder, Goezde oezge; Yay, ArzuThe inferior alveolar nerve can be damaged during dental procedures, leading to symptoms, such as tingling, numbness, and reduced quality of life. Recovery depends on factors such as medications, surgery, and photobiomodulation therapy. Photobiomodulation therapy has shown the potential to improve nerve function and reduce regeneration time; however, there is no standard treatment protocol yet. This study aimed to examine the effect of diode lasers on nerve regeneration in patients with axonetmesis injuries. In this experiment on animals, Wistar rats' damaged sensory systems were treated with lasers to restore them. Animals were randomly divided into six groups: a sham group, a control group, and four laser treatment groups(1st group: performed every day, 10 sessions; 2nd group: performed every 2 days, 10 sessions; 3rd group: performed every day, 20 sessions; and 4th group: performed every 2 days, 20 sessions). Sensory function was determined using the Semmes-Weinstein monofilament test, which was repeated after the surgical procedure. The results showed that the 20-session group had the best improvement, most closely resembling the group without sensory test damage. The histomorphometric results showed that the number of axons was significantly lower in the group that received 10 daily sessions and in the control group than in the undamaged nerve. Axon diameter was lower in all groups than in the sham group. In conclusion, the remarkable aspect of this study is that consecutive-day 20-session laser treatment showed better improvement than the over-the-day 20-session treatment protocol.Öğe The effect of prophylaxis paste and air?powder polishing on color stability and surface roughness of different composite resins(2022) Karataş, Özcan; Kuzu, Turan EmreAim: This study examined the impact of periodontal prophylaxis paste and air?powder treatment on nano? and microhybrid composite resin surface roughness and color change. Materials and Methods: Thirty specimens were prepared from a nanohybrid and a microhybrid composite resin. The specimens were distinct into three subgroups, and the first color measurements were done. Then, a periodontal prophylaxis paste was applied to one of the subgroups prepared from each composite, and air?powder polishing was applied to the second subgroups, and specimens in the third subgroup were kept in distilled water. Then, the specimens were washed and stored in distilled water for 24 h. After storing, the specimens’ mean color change and surface roughness values were calculated. The data were recorded and statistically analyzed. Results: The highest mean color change was observed in the microhybrid composite air?powder group while the lowest in the nanohybrid composite control group. The surface roughness of the air?powder specimens was statistically significantly higher than in the other groups. Conclusions: Depending on the kind of composite resin, periodontal surface treatments may have an impact on color and surface roughness. After periodontal therapy, the dentist should assess the current composite resin restorations.Öğe The Relationship of Fractal Dimension and Osseointegration: A Retrospective Radiologic Clinical Trial(Balıkesir University, 2024) Akkoca, Fatma; Kuzu, Turan Emre; İlhan, GünnurObjective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the density of alveolar bone in the peri-implant area using fractal analysis on orthopantomograms, both prior to and following clinical osseointegration. Material and Methods: Orthopantomograms were performed prior to the implant surgery and again four months postoperatively. Regions of interest at the mesial, distal, and apical sites of the implants were identified for analysis. The method by White and Rudolph was employed to calculate the fractal dimension. Subsequently, fractal dimension values were compared across all recorded measurements. Results: Statistical analyses revealed significant correlations between the mesial measurements before and after surgery, as well as between the distal measurements pre- and post-operatively, compared to the apical measurements over the same periods. Further subgroup analyses identified significant correlations in pre- and post-operative fractal dimension values specifically within the female subgroup, with notable distinctions observed between pre-mesial, post-mesial, and the average values before and after surgery (p
