Öğe Investigation of The Physical Activity and Obesity Levels of Primary School Children: Case of Kayseri Province(Necmettin Erbakan Üniversitesi, 2021) Yazıcı-gülay, Meltem; Korkmaz, Zübeyde; Erten, Zeliha Kaya; Gürbüz, KaanPurpose: To investigate the physical activity and obesity levels in primary school students. Method: This study was conducted on 529 students aged 8-10 years. The height and weight values of the children were measured and their body mass indexes were calculated. Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children (PAQ-C) levels were evaluated using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA tests. Statistical significance level was accepted as p0.05). While there was no significant difference between physical activity levels according to obesity classification (p>0.05), it was observed that those who were obese had the lowest physical activity scores. Conclusion and Suggestions: It was determined that about a quarter of the children participating in the study were overweight/obese and had moderate physical activity. It is recommended to organize training programs on proper nutrition habits and the importance of physical activity for both parents and children to combat obesity and increase physical activity levels.Öğe Is ideal treatment of metacarpal and phalangeal fractures possible? Clinical and radiological outcomes of three surgical choices(2020) Gürbüz, Kaan; Ekinci, Yakup; Batin, Sabri; Kaya Erten, ZelihaObjectives: We purposed to determine which of the surgical treatment options for metacarpal and phalangeal fractures, a\rsubject that has limited coverage in the literature, is best.\rMethods: Sixty-three patients who were surgically treated for closed and extra-articular metacarpal (41.9%) and phalangeal\r(58.1%) fractures were included in a randomized prospective clinical trial between August 2015 and August 2017. The patients were divided into three groups using block randomization: open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with miniplate\rplus screw fixation (MP Group; 6F/15M), ORIF with screw only fixation (SO Group; 5F/16M), and closed reduction and\rpercutaneous K-wire fixation (KW Group; 3F/18M). The patients were followed up at 10 days and 3 weeks for wound care,\rat 3 months, and at the end of the first year and assessed based on dynamometer measurement, Q-DASH, and range of\rmotion (ROM).\rResults: Time to return to work was 77.56 ± 33.85 days, while Q-DASH scores at 3 months and 1 year and dynamometer\rvalues at 3 months were significantly higher in KW Group (p<0.05). Although ROM was higher in KW Group in patients with\rmetacarpal and phalangeal fractures of metacarpophalangeal joint, ROM of PIP joint and total ROM were significantly lower\r(p<0.05). Total ROM of thumb fracture cases was not significantly different from that of the other cases (p>0.05).\rConclusion: Miniplates should be used for metacarpal fractures and screw only for phalangeal fractures in those with occupations requiring fine skills while pinning should be used in those with professions involving heavy work.Öğe Opposite ends of the spectrum: Do emotional eating and restraint eating present barriers to applying mindful eating and intuitive eating strategies?(World Nutrition, 2023) Kaya, Neşe; Gülay, Meltem Yazıcı; Gürbüz, KaanObjective We aimed to evaluate the relationship between intuitive eating, mindful eating, emotional eating and dietary restraint behaviors and the role of gender in these relationships. Material and Method This study was conducted with 522 participants aged 18-65. Questionnaire about sociodemographic characteristics and general eating habits, Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2), Mindful Eating Questionnaire-30 (MEQ-30), and Emotional Eating and Restraint Eating Subscale of Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ) were administered to the participants. Results DEBQ Restraint Eating, and Emotional Eating subscale scores were found to be higher in women. The total scores of IES-2 and MEQ-30 were found to be higher in the group with Body Mass Index (BMI)<25, and the DEBQ Emotional Eating subscale score was found to be higher in the group with BMI?25. The negative correlation between DEBQ Emotional Eating subscale score and IES-2 total score was weak in men and strong in women. The negative relationship between MEQ-30 total score and DEBQ Emotional Eating subscale score was moderate in men and strong in women. We found that gender had a moderator role between IES-2 and MEQ-30 total scores and between MEQ-30 total score and DEBQ Emotional Eating score. Conclusion Overweight and obese participants had lower levels of intuitive eating and mindful eating, while emotional eating levels were higher. Mindful eating and intuitive eating strategies may be concepts that represent two opposite ends of a spectrum with emotional eating, and emotional eating can be an obstacle when these strategies are administered, especially in women.
